After more than 34 years of running an open shop we decided to close the shop so we may enjoy semi-retirement. By semi-retirement we mean staying in the book business on the internet and at regional book fairs.

We are interested in buying Rare and Scarce books in any quantity.

This website will remain as is for a while to show what the shop was like, for those who were never there, and to give us some time to redesign a new front page. You may continue to buy books from this site, and receive the same immediate attention as when the shop was open.

Situated on Long Island's north shore, the business maintains a stock of approximately 4,000 titles of quality scholarly, scarce and out-of-print secondhand books in most fields. Approximately 2,000 of them are on this website for you to search. Click on the search button to the left or on the word search at the upper right of this page to see if we have listed what you are looking for. If you don't find your selection please click on the e-mail link at the top to let us know what you are in search of, or call the shop.

In business since 1972 at this location, founded and still operated by Michael and Mary Mart, the shop is Suffolk County's oldest antiquarian bookshop. Except for a few Book Fairs a year on Long Island and in New York City, all sales are conducted on the internet.

From the beginning we have had and still have wonderful opportunities to buy and sell remarkable books; from single items to complete collections. Our proximity to the State University of New York at Stony Brook, just a few miles away, and to New York City, makes this area truly book country. And, as with most serious bookshops, we buy many more books than we can display at any one moment, so if there are books you are in search of please let us know (click on email at top) and we will make every effort to find them among our stock still in storage.

Our shop from 1972 until July 2006.
